Department of Chemistry and Biological Sciences

Department Overview

In the Department of Chemistry & Biological Sciences, we foster advanced expert engineers, researchers, and educators with the problem-solving skills to tackle technologies and development of chemistry and biological sciences. We add the scientific educational and research fields of “basic chemistry” and “basic biological sciences” into conventional “applied chemistry” and “biological sciences” of engineering. We offer chemistry course and biological sciences course. We educate and research at a high level in each course. Some of them are carried out through liaising with courses.

There are three main fields of in the chemistry course: surface and energy chemistry, organic and polymer chemistry and physical chemistry and chemical systems. And the biological sciences course has four main fields: biofunctions, cellular engineering, regenerative medical engineering and biomolecular systems. We provide education from the basics to applications.

Goal of our education

  1. Graduates who have basic scientific knowledge of chemistry and biological sciences as well as applied skills of engineering, and relevant engineering and/or medical problem-solving abilities
    Graduates who can contribute to the sustainable development of the local and international communities with great humanity
  2. Graduates who have a high level of expertise and broad knowledge of the fields of basic chemistry, applied chemistry, and their relevant field
    Graduates who have the scientific knowledge and problem-solving skills to work for many problems that must be solved, aiming realization of the sustainable development of the applied chemistry
  3. Graduates with a high level of expertise and broad knowledge of the fields of basic biological sciences and bioengineering and their relevant field
    Graduates who have scientific knowledge and problem-solving skills to work for many problems that must be solved, aiming realization of the sustainable development of the bioengineering
