Research Themes

The compounding and adhesion of inorganic and organic compounds to create materials with new functions

Inorganic layered compounds (clays) are widely used in daily life, for everything from home electronics and automobiles to containers, paper manufacturing, and construction materials. By compounding or adhering inorganic compounds that are plentiful in the earth and organic compounds (polymers, rubbers, etc.) together, we research the creation of materials with functions that cannot be realized by materials on their own. We also research the recovery of valuable metals. To realize a society with sustainable development, we research and develop adhered/compound chemical materials that play an important role in the global environment by taking the conversion of raw materials from finite substances to recycled resources into consideration.

Teaching Philosophy

I educate students to be active in the global age with a broad scientific perspective, in an effort to establish foundational knowledge in the analytical chemistry, inorganic chemistry, organic chemistry, polymer chemistry, bioengineering, and physical chemistry necessary for chemistry and bioengineering.
