Research Themes

Observational research on the activities of galaxies based on the development of integral-field spectrographs

Spectroscopy provides information on the dynamical and physical states of stars and gases in galaxies.
In recent years, it has become possible to obtain the spectra of distant galaxies and investigate how they have evolved into the present-day galaxies. In this laboratory, we develop integral-field spectrographs to efficiently disperse light from extended faint sources like distant galaxies, and conduct observational research on galaxies.

Teaching Philosophy

It is important to have the ability to understand information correctly, and an attitude of exploration into the true nature of things. I aim to educate students to gain knowledge in optics and information processing that can be applied to a broad range of fields, through the development of instruments for astronomical observation and the analysis of observational data.
