Research Themes

3D/4D characterization of metallic materials using synchrotron X-ray imaging

Structural materials sustain our social infrastructure, such as automobiles, airplanes, buildings and bridges. These materials are exposed to the risk of deformation and failure during application. To control this risk and ensure their reliability, it is crucial to understand the mechanisms of deformation and fracture. In order to achieve this, we are conducting basic and applied research using 3D/4D imaging at SPring-8.
