Aiming to foster talented personnel

The Graduate School of Science and Engineering aims to create a sustainable, safe, and secure society. Our goal is to offer the necessary depth of knowledge to explore specialist fields, a broad education, an understanding of the local area, internationality, leadership, and ethical standards, fostering talented personnel with the abilities and experience necessary for each of their fields who strive to discover new knowledge and create new values with an insatiable desire for truth.

Desirable qualities in new students

1.Knowledge, skills, and understanding

Those with the basic training (knowledge, skills, experience) in their specialist field needed to cope with searching for truth, developing new technologies and creating values, and a capacity for logical thought

2.Capacity for thought, judgement, and expression

Those who want to share research results nationally and internationally through academic papers, intellectual property and products, and through this contribute locally and globally to the academic and technology fields

3.Interest and motivation

Those who are motivated to pursue issues and solutions in specialist fields, who have the enthusiasm to further their specialist education to solve problems, and are equipped with the necessary planning ability and independence to undertake research, and excel in its execution

4.Independence and cooperativeness

Those who are motivated to gain the necessary communication skills to hold logical discussions with a variety of people, reach conclusions, and work cooperatively

In addition, we are looking for
* Students from overseas who understand Japanese culture, and are able to play internationally active roles
* Mature students who recognize issues in companies and local governments, and have the desire to solve those issues

Skills and knowledge we expect people to have acquired before admission

Applicants should have the basic training in their specialist field in order to pursue specialist academic research in graduate school.

Basic policy for student selection

1.General admissions

In the written examination, we evaluate knowledge, skills, and understanding; in the interview (including the oral examination), we evaluate knowledge, skills, and understanding, capacity for thought, judgement, and expression, interest and motivation, and independence and cooperativeness; in the presentation, we evaluate knowledge, skills, and understanding, capacity for thought, judgement, and expression, interest and motivation, and independence and cooperativeness.

2.Admissions for mature students

In the written examination, we evaluate knowledge, skills, and understanding; in the interview (including the oral examination) and presentation, we evaluate knowledge, skills, and understanding, capacity for thought, judgement, and expression, interest and motivation, and independence and cooperativeness, based on the applicant’s experiences and track record as a working adult.

3.Admissions for international students

In the written examination, we evaluate knowledge, skills, and understanding; in the interview (including the oral examination) and presentation, we evaluate knowledge, skills, and understanding, capacity for thought, judgement, and expression, interest and motivation, and independence and cooperativeness.
