1939 (Showa 14) Official inauguration of Morioka Higher Technical School (predecessor of the Faculty of Engineering)
1944 (Showa 19) Renamed Morioka Technical College
1949 (Showa 24) Established Iwate University Faculty of Engineering (Mechanical Engineering, Electric Engineering, Mining Engineering, and Metallurgical Engineering).
1968 (Showa 43) Established the Master’s Program at the Graduate School of Engineering.
1992 (Heisei 4) Reorganized into six departments (Applied Molecular Chemistry, Materials Science and Engineering, Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Civil and Environmental Engineering, Information Engineering).
1996 (Heisei 8) Established the Doctoral Program at the Graduate School of Engineering.
2000 (Heisei 15) Established the Frontier Materials and Function Engineering course at the Graduate School of Engineering.
2004 (Heisei 16) Faculty of Engineering, Iwate University inaugurated as an Incorporated National University.
2006 (Heisei 18) Established the Die-Mold and Casting Engineering course at the Graduate School of Engineering.
2009 (Heisei 21) Faculty of Engineering : Reorganized into five departments (Chemistry and Bioengineering, Materials Science and Engineering, Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, Mechanical Engineering, Civil and Environmental Engineering).
2009 (Heisei 21) Master’s program : Reorganized into seven departments (Chemistry and Bioengineering, Frontier Materials and Function Engineering, Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, Mechanical Engineering, Civil and Environmental Engineering, Design and Media Technology, Die-Mold and Casting Engineering).
2009 (Heisei 21) Doctoral program : Reorganized into four departments (Frontier Matter and Function Engineering, Mechanical Engineering Civil and Environmental Engineering, Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, Design and Media Technology).
2016 (Heisei 28) Reorganized into the current departments.
