1939(Showa 14) Official inauguration of Morioka Higher Technical School (predecessor of the Faculty of Engineering)
1944(Showa 19) Renamed Morioka Technical College
1949(Showa 24) Established Iwate University Faculty of Engineering (Mechanical Engineering, Electric Engineering, Mining Engineering, and Metallurgical Engineering).
1992(Heisei 4) Reorganized 10 departments and 1 common course into 6 departments (Applied Molecular Chemistry, Materials Science, Electrical and Electronics, Mechanics, Construction and Environment, and Information)
1996(Heisei 8) Graduate School of Engineering Doctoral Course established (Materials, Production and Development, Electronics and Informatics)
2000(Heisei 12) Reorganized into 7 departments by adding 1 new department to 6 departments (Applied Chemistry, Materials Science, Electrical and Electronics, Mechanical Systems, Construction and Environment, Information Systems, and Welfare Systems)
2004(Heisei 16) The Faculty of Engineering of Iwate University becomes a national university corporation.
2006(Heisei 18) Foundry Technology Research Center established.
2006(Heisei 18) Research Center for Composite Device Technology established.
2009(Heisei 21) Reorganized into 5 departments (Applied Chemistry & Life Sciences, Materials, Electrical, Electronics & Information Systems, Mechanical Systems, and Social Environment)
2009(Heisei 21) Reorganized the Master’s Program into seven majors (Applied Chemistry/Life Sciences, Frontier Materials and Functions, Electrical, Electronics and Information Systems, Mechanical Systems, Social Environment, Design and Media, and Mold and Foundry)
2009(Heisei 21) Reorganized the doctoral program into four majors (Frontier Materials and Functions, Mechanical and Socio-Environmental Systems, Electrical, Electronics and Information Systems, and Design and Media).
2010(Heisei 22) Annexed Monozukuri Engineering Factory established.
2016(Heisei 28) Reorganized into three departments (Department of Chemistry and Bioscience and Biotechnology, Department of Physics and Materials Science and Engineering, and Department of Systems Innovation Engineering).
2025(Reiwa 7) Reorganized from 3 departments and 8 courses to 1 department and 8 courses, and established Creative Information Course. (Department of Science and Engineering: Chemistry, Mathematics and Physics, Materials Science, Intelligent Informatics, Creative Informatics, Electrical Electronics and Information Communication, Mechanical and Intelligent Aeronautics, and Infrastructural and Environmental Engineering)
